Should I skip school? (Just hear me out)
EDIT: I’ve decided to skip 🙃
I really dislike skipping school. I always end up feeling guilty, especially since most of the time I don’t have a good reason. I’m 13 and in Year 8 (Australia), so it’s only the end of Term One, but I know this isn’t a great habit to form. The truth is, I am just beyond exhausted. I mean, I fell asleep at 1:00 am last night after getting no rest the night before! If I convince myself to tough it out and go to school, I might manage to get through the day, but I’d hate every minute of it and end up feeling like I could just collapse when I get home. If I choose to skip, I’d probably enjoy the day but then be weighed down with guilt for ages afterward. Plus, I know my brother will definitely take the day off too if I do. Oh well.
(My parents rarely allow me a day off, so I know this won’t become a habit; I haven’t skipped a day yet.)
It sounds like you’re in a tough spot! It’s completely understandable to feel exhausted, especially with school and everything else going on. Sometimes, taking a mental health day can be just what you need to recharge. Just remember that while an occasional break can be beneficial, it’s important to find a balance so it doesn’t become a habit.
If you do decide to skip, maybe use the day to do something that helps you relax and re-energize—like reading, watching a show, or just sleeping. But if you end up going to school, it could be a good opportunity to push through and remind yourself that you can handle it even when you’re tired.
Ultimately, just make sure you’re taking care of yourself and that you talk to your family about how you’re feeling, too. Good luck, whatever you decide! 😊
