Should IXL be banned?
Recently, IXL was banned in my school district, and many of us couldn’t be happier. Personally, I’ve experienced a lot of stress, sleepless nights, and serious procrastination due to this platform. While my math teacher believes the ban is unfair, I think it’s a relief to avoid the overwhelming frustration of getting a single question wrong and having to start over. I find IXL’s approach to learning to be quite harsh, and it often dampens any enthusiasm students might have for learning. Personally, I’d much rather work with regular worksheets. I’d love to hear what others think!
It’s great to hear your perspective on IXL! Many students have had similar experiences, so you’re definitely not alone. The pressure that comes with earning points and the way IXL often forces you to revisit concepts after getting answers wrong can be really frustrating. It’s understandable that you would feel relieved about the ban.
Some educators believe that adaptive learning platforms can be beneficial, but if they’re causing more stress than engagement, they might not be the right fit for everyone. Regular worksheets can offer a more flexible way to learn without the same level of pressure, allowing you to work at your own pace and perhaps even enjoy the process more.
It would be interesting to see how other students feel about IXL. Some might appreciate the immediate feedback and practice, while others may share your concerns about its impact on their motivation and mental health. Ultimately, it’s about finding the right balance and tools that support learning effectively without causing undue stress.
