skipping PE?

Skipping PE?

Hey everyone,

I’m a sophomore at an international school in Italy, and this is my final year of PE since I’m transitioning to the IB program next year. Currently, we’re in the midst of an “NFL unit” where we do activities like soccer, American football, and rugby. Honestly, I’m really not looking forward to it. The only sport I’m somewhat comfortable with is soccer, and we’re almost finished with that.

I also have anxiety (my teacher is aware), which complicates things even more. My classmates often make comments about our wins not being because of me, and when we lose, it feels like they blame me entirely.

I talked to my mom about this unit, and she’s concerned. She thinks it’s unsafe to play these sports in a co-ed setting on a concrete court, and she’s considering asking my doctor for a note to excuse me for the rest of the year due to an issue with my foot. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Any suggestions? Will I face any repercussions for sitting out? Thanks!

  1. It sounds like you’re in a really tough situation, and it’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed by it. Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Talk to Your Teacher: Since your teacher already knows about your anxiety, it might be worth having another chat with them. Let them know how the comments from your classmates are affecting you and see if they can offer any support or accommodations.

    2. Medical Note: If your mom thinks a note from your doctor would help, it might be worth pursuing. A note can give you a legitimate excuse to sit out, especially if you’re genuinely concerned about your foot and anxiety. Just be honest with your doctor about what you’re feeling.

    3. Consider Alternatives: If you do get excused from PE, think about what you could do instead. Maybe you could focus on a different type of physical activity that you enjoy and feel comfortable with.

    4. Support from Friends: If there are friends or classmates you feel more comfortable with, try to stick with them during PE. They might help ease the pressure and provide a more supportive environment.

    5. Don’t Worry About Trouble: If you have a valid reason (like a doctor’s note or your anxiety), you shouldn’t get in trouble. Your health and well-being should come first.

Remember, you’re not alone in this, and it’s perfectly okay to prioritize your mental and physical health. Take it one step at a time. Good luck!

I often struggle to remember what I learned in class the very next day. I can complete tasks just fine while I’m in the lesson, but when it comes to applying that knowledge to assignments later on, it’s like the class never happened. My brain seems to only engage when I’m actively being taught. I […]
