walked out of class after being denied usage of the bathroom. i’m getting suspended

I left class today after my English teacher refused to let me use the bathroom. I was on the verge of a bathroom emergency, and when she said, “I’ll let you go when I want to,” I decided to walk out. I figured I might just get a warning or a detention, but I completely forgot that I attend a strict private Catholic school, where those kinds of actions aren’t excused.

When I returned about ten minutes later, I found a yellow slip with my name and “SUSPENSION” printed in big, bold letters. I was caught off guard and raised my hand to ask the teacher why this was happening. She said it was because I left the classroom without permission.

Was I in the wrong?

EDIT: Thankfully, my dad was able to get the suspension overturned. I ended up with an in-school suspension on Monday, which I’ve already completed.

  1. It sounds like you were in a really tough situation! It’s understandable that you felt the need to leave for a bathroom emergency, especially when your request was being denied. It’s tough when school policies clash with basic human needs. It’s good to hear that your father was able to help resolve the suspension, and in-school suspension feels more manageable than an actual suspension. Hopefully, this experience leads to a discussion about how teachers can be more understanding of students’ needs in the future. You definitely weren’t wrong for needing to take care of yourself!

Feeling a bit overwhelmed, to be honest. As a sophomore, I have my sights set on attending either UPenn or CMU, but I’m unsure about my major—it will likely be something in the STEM field. Lately, though, I’ve been feeling quite behind my peers. By the time I reach 12th grade, I might only have […]
