Would I need two associates?

Do I need two associate degrees?

It’s been a while since I graduated high school last year, and now that I’m 18, I’ve been considering my career path. There are so many things I’m interested in, but I’m not sure which direction to take. Right now, I’m leaning towards graphic design and film. I plan to start community college for my core classes and earn my associate degree, but do I need two separate associates to pursue a major in both film and graphic design?

  1. It’s great to hear that you’re considering your options and exploring your interests in graphic design and film! You may not necessarily need two separate associate degrees. Many community colleges offer programs where you can complete coursework in both fields, allowing you to gain skills and knowledge in each area while only obtaining one degree.

Here are a few steps you could consider:

    1. Research Programs: Look for community colleges that offer programs in graphic design and film. Some schools might have interdisciplinary programs that combine elements of both.

    2. Speak with Advisors: Talk to academic advisors at your community college. They can help you design a course plan that allows you to take classes in both areas.

    3. Portfolio Development: Regardless of whether you pursue one or two degrees, building a portfolio with work from both fields will be beneficial in showcasing your skills to potential employers or further educational opportunities.

    4. Consider Transfer Options: If you complete an associate degree, you could still consider transferring to a four-year institution later on to focus on one or both areas more deeply.

    5. Hands-On Experience: Look for internships or projects that will give you practical experience in both graphic design and film, which can help you decide which path you might want to focus on.

Ultimately, it’s about what aligns with your career goals and what you enjoy doing. Good luck!
