End of the School Year Reflection: A Candid Look at My Classes and Experiences

As the academic year draws to a close, it’s a natural time to evaluate and reflect on the courses I’ve taken. Here’s an honest summary of my experiences across different classes, highlighting what went well and what didn’t.

Environmental Science – 7/10
This class was relatively straightforward, and I appreciated the subject matter. However, collaboration was challenging due to uncooperative group members who seldom communicated. Additionally, I spent three hours on an assignment that was never graded, keeping my grade at a 94 instead of advancing to a 95. Overall, I enjoyed the teacher’s approach.

Geometry – 7.5/10
I enjoyed this course, largely thanks to an engaging instructor. It was also manageable in difficulty. Unfortunately, the class atmosphere was marred by some students who would either disengage or distract us, leading to frustration. Despite this, I finished with an A and am optimistic about Algebra 2 being similarly manageable.

World History – 3/10
My experience here was disappointing; the teacher relied heavily on computer-based assignments rather than instruction. The grading system was heavily weighted, requiring nearly perfect scores on tests to maintain my grade. Many classmates appeared disengaged, and academic dishonesty was prevalent. I ended the course with a high B, but I’m concerned about future social and academic challenges, especially if US History turns out similarly.

Lunch Break – 5.5/10
Lunchtime was often dull, partly because I don’t have many friends due to changing schools after my freshman year. Nonetheless, it provided a quiet interval to catch up on homework or relax.

Advanced Art – 0/10
This class was a source of significant frustration. I ended the semester with a 79%, earning my first C in high school, which jeopardizes my college prospects. The workload was intense, with many late nights spent finishing projects. Semester two was slightly better but still unsatisfactory, ending with a B. Most classmates had unfinished work, and I prefer the simpler, freshman-year art classes with teachers I connected with better.

Advisory – 6/10
While I enjoyed the teacher, her absence in the final month due to a personal tragedy overshadowed much of the experience. It was a boring period, and I missed the companionship I had in my earlier advisory class.

Honors English – 6.5/10
