Reflecting on the End of the Academic Year: My Classes and Overall Experience
As the school year draws to a close, it’s a perfect opportunity to review and rate the courses I’ve taken over the past months. Here’s a candid reflection on each class and my overall sentiments about this academic year.
Environmental Science – 7/10
This course was relatively straightforward, which I appreciated. However, I faced challenges with group work, as some of my classmates were uncooperative and uninterested in collaboration. I also spent several hours completing an assignment that, unfortunately, went ungraded, leaving my final grade just shy of a perfect score. Despite these hiccups, I enjoyed the teacher and found the subject engaging.
Geometry – 7.5/10
I really appreciated the instructor and found the class content manageable. Unfortunately, some classmates disrupted the learning environment by not paying attention or intentionally causing frustration for the teacher. This led to a less-than-ideal atmosphere, with a notable number of students struggling and resorting to cheating on simple tests. Nonetheless, I managed to end the course with an A and hope that Algebra II will prove just as accessible.
World History – 3/10
This class was disappointing; most of the instruction was directed by computer work rather than the teacher, and the grading system was heavily weighted. To maintain my grade, I needed near-perfect scores on exams, which was stressful given the repetitive and monotonous assignments. Despite finishing with a high B, I remain frustrated. If US History turns out to be similarly structured, I’ll be quite unhappy.
Lunch – 5.5/10
Lunchtime was rather dull, especially since I haven’t yet built strong friendships at this school after transferring post-freshman year. However, it did provide a quiet window to work on homework, so it wasn’t entirely unproductive.
Advanced Art – 0/10
Art class was an incredibly frustrating experience. I ended Semester 1 with a 79%, marking my first C in high school, which has real implications for my college prospects. The workload was intense, often requiring late nights to complete projects. The second semester improved slightly, but I still finished with a B, and I know many classmates struggled to complete their work. I’m relieved to be done with this class, especially since my earlier art classes and my freshman teacher provided a much more enjoyable experience.
Advisory – 6/10
While I like the teacher, this class was quite dull.
