Reflecting on the End of the School Year: A Personal Review of My Classes

As the academic year concludes, many students take a moment to evaluate their experiences and share their thoughts on the courses they’ve completed. Here’s a candid look at my personal journey through this school year, highlighting what worked, what didn’t, and my overall impressions.

Environmental Science – 7/10
This class was fairly straightforward, and I appreciated the quality of instruction. However, collaboration was challenging; my group members were uncommunicative, which hampered our teamwork. I also spent three hours on an assignment that was ultimately not graded, leaving me with a slightly lower final grade than I aimed for. Despite these issues, I enjoyed the teacher’s approach.

Geometry – 7.5/10
I had a great connection with my teacher and found the material manageable. Unfortunately, some classmates exhibited disruptive behavior, often paying little attention or provoking the teacher. Their antics led to a tense classroom environment, with a significant number of students failing or resorting to cheating. Nevertheless, I finished with an A grade and am optimistic about tackling Algebra 2.

World History – 3/10
The instruction in this course was minimal; much of the work involved repetitive computer tasks rather than direct teaching. The grading was heavily weighted, requiring near-perfect scores on assessments to maintain my grade. Most students seemed disengaged, which made the class dull and frustrating. I ended the year with a high B and remain apprehensive about future history courses.

Lunch Break – 5.5/10
Lunchtime was uneventful, especially since I moved schools after freshman year, leaving me without friends at my current school. Still, it’s a quiet window for catching up on homework or relaxing.

Advanced Art – 0/10
This class was undeniably the worst part of my year. I finished the first semester with a C—my first high school grade below an A—which was disheartening, especially considering college admissions. The workload was intense, often requiring all-nighters just to meet deadlines. Semester two improved slightly, but I ended with a B. Many classmates struggled with unfinished projects, which affected the overall experience. I’m relieved to leave this class behind and prefer my earlier courses and teachers.

Advisory – 6/10
While I enjoy the teacher, her absence during the final month due to personal reasons was felt. It’s a quiet, unremarkable part of the day, and
