Launching a Specialized Tutoring Service Focused on Special Education: Seeking Your Insights
Introducing a New Personalized Educational Support Platform
Hello everyone,
I’m Kayla, and I’m thrilled to announce the launch of a tailored one-on-one tutoring service dedicated to supporting children from Kindergarten through Grade 6. As I prepare to start this journey, I would greatly appreciate your feedback on several aspects—including pricing strategies, lesson planning ideas, and maintaining ethical standards in my practice.
My background combines a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with hands-on experience in special education. I’ve worked both as a supply Educational Assistant and as an occasional Early Childhood Educator across public, Catholic, and private schools. While I do offer academic help in reading, writing, and math, my true passion lies in fostering social-emotional development and essential life skills—areas increasingly vital in today’s world.
Since the onset of COVID-19, I’ve observed firsthand how many children face challenges with emotional regulation, forming friendships, and managing everyday routines. Recognizing a genuine community need, I aim to provide a supportive environment that extends beyond traditional academics. My sessions will encompass:
– Academic Support in Reading, Writing, and Math
– Social-Emotional Learning and Mindfulness
– Life Skills and Executive Function Coaching
– Attention and Focus Strategies (including ADHD-informed techniques)
– Project-Based Inquiry into Interests like Art, Space, or Animals
Every child is unique, so I customize each session to suit individual goals—be it mastering school subjects, enhancing social interaction, or exploring personal passions through creative projects.
I’d love to gather your insights on a few key points:
Pricing: I am considering an hourly rate of $50. Do you think this offers a fair value, based on my background and the scope of services, especially considering I am not a licensed therapist?
Lesson Planning: I plan to incorporate arts, storytelling, and interactive activities to develop social-emotional skills and executive functioning. If you know of effective resources, activities, or strategies tailored to this age group, please share!
Ethical Practice: It’s important for me to clearly communicate that my sessions are educational and supportive rather than clinical therapy. I include disclaimers indicating I am not a licensed therapist. I would appreciate advice on best practices to ensure transparency and uphold ethical standards in my work.
Thank you so much for your time and thoughtful input. My goal is to create a compassionate, engaging, and genuinely helpful tutoring environment that nurtures kids’ growth and confidence.
