Understanding the Impact of Single-Gender Spaces on Gender Diversity: A Student’s Inquiry

As part of my Year 12 Society and Culture major project, I am exploring a critically relevant topic: the increasing division of homosocial environments and their influence on the inclusion of gender-diverse individuals. This research aims to shed light on how single-gender spaces—such as sports teams, youth groups, religious organizations, and other community groups—affect the participation and acceptance of those who identify outside the traditional gender binary.

My survey is open to participants from all backgrounds, and I want to assure you that it is completely anonymous; no personal identification, emails, or contact details are requested. The questionnaire includes questions about gender identity, country of residence, and age group to help analyze diverse perspectives across different demographics.

I’m reaching out here in the hope that others who are engaged in similar research or who have experience with gender-diverse inclusion might be willing to contribute. If you participate in or have experience with single-gender activities—be it sports clubs, youth groups like Guides or Scouts, YMCA-affiliated organizations, or religious groups—I would especially appreciate your insights.

Given that responses from gender-diverse and transgender individuals are particularly valuable, I am eager to hear from members of these communities to deepen the understanding of this complex topic. Your input is vital for capturing authentic experiences and fostering more inclusive environments.

Furthermore, I am more than willing to support others in their research projects, whether by completing surveys, offering advice on topic selection, or sharing tips on navigating high school research assignments. I love exploring social sciences and am excited to complete my project soon.

If you’re interested in participating or have related questions, please feel free to reach out—I truly appreciate any contributions or insights you can share. Together, we can better understand how to create spaces where everyone feels welcome.
