Understanding the Impact of Single-Gender Spaces on Gender Diversity Inclusion: A Student Research Initiative
As a year 12 (senior high school) student currently working on my major project for Society and Culture, I am exploring a topic that increasingly captures societal interest: the role of single-gender environments and their influence on the acceptance and inclusion of gender-diverse individuals.
The focus of my research is on how the proliferation or polarization of homosocial spaces—such as sports teams, youth groups, religious communities, and other single-gender settings—affects the participation and sense of belonging among gender-diverse populations.
I am conducting a survey open to participants from all backgrounds. Rest assured, it is entirely anonymous; it does not collect names, emails, or any personally identifiable information. The questionnaire includes questions about gender, age, and country of residence, alongside broader inquiries about experiences within single-gender spaces.
I would greatly appreciate contributions from anyone willing to share their perspectives, especially those involved in or affected by single-gender groups like sports clubs, scouting organizations, religious groups, or similar communities. Your insights are invaluable, particularly from transgender and gender-diverse individuals, as I am still gathering responses.
Additionally, I am happy to reciprocate by assisting with others’ research projects, answering questions, or providing guidance on selecting topics and conducting studies in high school. Given my enthusiasm for this subject and the fact that I am wrapping up the course in less than a month, I look forward to engaging with fellow students and community members interested in this important issue.
If you’re interested in participating or have related topics to discuss, please feel free to reach out. Your input can make a meaningful difference in advancing understanding of gender inclusion within various social spaces.
