Enhancing Inclusivity in Homosocial Spaces: A Student’s Research Initiative
As a Year 12 student deeply engaged in exploring societal dynamics, I am currently undertaking a major project for my Society and Culture course. My focus is on the growing polarization of homosocial environments—spaces predominantly occupied by one gender—and examining how this trend impacts the inclusion of gender-diverse individuals.
This research aims to shed light on how single-gender settings such as sports teams, youth organizations like Scouts or Guides, YMCA programs, religious groups, and similar environments influence social inclusion. I am particularly interested in gathering insights from individuals across all demographics, with an emphasis on experiences relevant to gender diversity and transgender identities.
To support this effort, I have created a brief, anonymous survey—no personal identifiers like names or emails are collected. It includes questions about gender, country, and age group, and is open to anyone willing to share their perspective. If you’re involved in or have experience with single-gender spaces, your input would be invaluable.
I also welcome collaborations—if you’re conducting similar research or need advice on studying these topics during high school, I would be happy to exchange ideas, answer questions, or participate in your surveys. Your insights, especially from gender-diverse or transgender individuals, are crucial, as responses so far have been limited.
Thank you for considering contributing to this meaningful project. Your participation can help foster a deeper understanding of how to create more inclusive environments within these traditionally exclusive spaces.
Please feel free to reach out or share this post with anyone who might be interested.
