Exploring the Impact of Single-Gender Spaces on Inclusivity for Gender-Diverse Individuals

As part of my Year 12 Society and Culture major project, I am delving into the evolving landscape of social spaces and their influence on gender inclusivity. Specifically, my focus is on how the increasing segmentation of homosocial environments—such as sports clubs, youth groups, and religious organizations—affects the participation and acceptance of gender-diverse individuals.

This research aims to shed light on the dynamics within single-gender settings and their role in promoting or hindering inclusivity for those who identify outside traditional gender binaries. To gather diverse perspectives, I have created a confidential survey accessible to all demographics. The survey includes questions about gender, age, and country of residence, but no personal identifiers like names or emails are collected to ensure privacy.

I encourage participation from anyone involved in or familiar with single-gender groups, including sports teams, scouting organizations, community groups like YMCA, religious institutions, and other similar environments. Given that many youth and teens are active in these settings, your insights would be invaluable.

If you’re a gender-diverse or transgender individual, your experiences are especially important to this research, and I sincerely appreciate any responses.

Additionally, I am enthusiastic about exchanging ideas or offering guidance on undertaking similar academic projects related to gender studies, especially for high school students. With my course completion in less than a month, I am eager to share tips or collaborate on related topics.

Your input will contribute significantly to understanding and improving inclusivity within these pivotal social spaces. Thank you for your support and engagement!
