Exploring the Impact of Single-Gender Spaces on Inclusion of Gender-Diverse Individuals
In today’s society, the conversations surrounding gender inclusion and the role of social spaces are more relevant than ever. As part of my Year 12 Society and Culture major project, I am examining a particularly pertinent issue: how the increasing polarization of homosocial environments—such as single-gender clubs, sports teams, and community groups—affects the inclusion of gender-diverse individuals.
This research aims to shed light on how these gender-specific spaces influence the experiences and participation of those who identify outside traditional gender binaries. To gather valuable perspectives, I have created a survey intended for people across all demographics. Rest assured, no personal identifiers like names or emails are collected—only general information about gender, country, and age group.
I am reaching out to the community, especially those involved in single-gender contexts such as sports teams, scouting organizations, religious groups, or YMCA-affiliated activities. Many teens participate in these environments, and your insights are incredibly important to my study.
Your participation will greatly contribute to a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities in fostering inclusive spaces for gender-diverse individuals. I particularly encourage responses from trans and gender-diverse individuals, as their experiences are vital to this research.
Additionally, I am more than happy to support others working on similar projects—whether by sharing insights, offering advice, or exchanging survey ideas. Having completed my course in less than a month, I am eager to connect with fellow students passionate about this topic.
Thank you for your time and contribution. Your perspectives are invaluable in helping us build more inclusive communities for everyone.
