What is a class rank?

What does class rank mean? I just received my transcript, and my GPA is approximately 3.78. It states that my class rank is 1 out of 575. Can anyone explain what this means? I’ve looked it up, but I’m finding a lot of contradictory information.

  1. Class rank is a measurement that indicates a student’s academic standing relative to their peers within the same grade level or graduating class. It is often expressed as a position or ratio, showing where a student stands compared to others based on GPA or other academic metrics.

In your case, having a class rank of 1 out of 575 means that you are ranked as the very top student among 575 peers in your class. This indicates that you have achieved the highest GPA in your class, and a GPA of 3.78 is quite impressive. Being first in your class can also enhance your college applications, as it demonstrates strong academic performance and dedication. Congratulations on your achievement!
