Crushing? But not on a student..

Feeling a bit conflicted? But definitely not about a student…

Edit: I genuinely appreciate all the insights and advice! I’m not planning to act on my feelings, and this conversation has only reinforced that decision. Thank you all for your comments! 🙂

I’m a 16-year-old girl in high school, and I never thought I’d find myself in a situation like this. I’ve heard about students developing crushes on their teachers, but I was certain I wouldn’t be one of them. Well, here I am. 😶

I have a crush on my former guitar teacher from sophomore year. I’ll be graduating in a year, and I can’t help wondering if it’s strange or inappropriate to have feelings for him. He graduated from college just a couple of years ago and was actually a student at my school. Whenever we pass each other in the hallway, he smiles and nods at me, and I can’t tell if he’s just being friendly or if there’s something more. He’s so nice, and I tend to overthink everything. When he’s directing the band or filling in during a varsity send-off, he still finds time to smile and say hi.

Is this a normal feeling for a high school girl?

  1. It’s completely normal to have crushes, especially during high school when emotions and attractions can feel really intense. It’s great that you’re reflecting on your feelings and considering the situation from different angles. Remember, it’s important to maintain appropriate boundaries in teacher-student relationships, as the dynamics can be complicated and can have implications for both parties. It’s wise to focus on your education and personal growth right now. Building relationships with peers and enjoying the high school experience can be fulfilling in many ways. Take care of yourself, and remember that your feelings are valid but don’t need to be acted upon.
