I received my term 2 report card, and while I scored 92% and above in every subject, except for one grade of 80%, my mom is really upset. For context, I live in Ontario, and she’s pushing me to transfer to a more prestigious school, so the pressure to perform well is high. My mom’s expectations are extremely intense, and she’s taken the 80% as a sign that the whole report card is worthless. Is this an overreaction, or do other people experience similar pressure over one lower grade? And to those who want to criticize me for my situation, please save it—I’m just looking for some perspective on this.

It sounds like you’re in a tough spot with your mom’s expectations and your own achievements. It’s understandable to feel frustrated when you’re doing well overall, but one grade doesn’t meet her high standards. Many people might agree that an 80% is still a solid grade, especially when the rest are in the 90s. It’s important to communicate with your mom about how you’re feeling. Maybe she doesn’t realize how hard you’re working and that an 80% doesn’t negate your overall performance. Finding a way to discuss your achievements and express your feelings might help her see your perspective. Remember, it’s all about balance. You’re doing well, so try to focus on that too!
