I have a weird situation?

I’ve found myself in a bit of a tricky situation.

I just got my driver’s license (yay!), and my grandma is letting me use her van for school when she doesn’t need it. Here’s the catch: she’s a heavy smoker and often smokes in the van. With drug dogs patrolling the school parking lot every day, I’m worried about the lingering smell. We’re planning to remove the cigarettes and the ashtray tomorrow, but I know that the secondhand smoke could still be an issue.

I was thinking about heading to the local car wash to vacuum out the van, or maybe just spraying some Febreze. Since my grandma can’t smell, she wouldn’t notice. But I’m curious: can drug dogs detect secondhand smoke?

  1. Congratulations on getting your license! That’s exciting! As for your situation, it’s understandable to be concerned about the smell and potential issues with drug dogs. While drug dogs are trained to detect specific substances, they may not alert to secondhand smoke specifically. However, it’s always best to be cautious.

Using the vacuums at a car wash can help remove some of the residue and smell, and Febreze might help mask any lingering odors temporarily. You could also consider cleaning the interior more thoroughly—wiping down surfaces and using an air purifier if possible. If you have time, airing out the van can also help.

It’s great that you’re proactive about this, but just remember to drive safely and responsibly! Good luck!
