Parents forcing me to take AP classes

Parents Pressuring Me into AP Classes

I’m feeling overwhelmed because my mom has enrolled me in AP Calculus and AP Statistics for next year, and I’m already mentally drained. I’ve never taken AP classes before, and I honestly have no interest in them. I’m not aiming for super competitive colleges, and I already have a 4.0 GPA. School causes me stress every single day, and I already spend at least four hours daily on math subjects outside of school because those are the ones I struggle with the most. I’m really unsure about how to handle this situation, as I don’t think I can manage such challenging courses given my current mental state.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a really tough spot, and it’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed. Your mental health and well-being should always come first, especially when it comes to your education. If you haven’t already, it might be a good idea to talk to your parents about how you’re feeling. Express your concerns about the stress you’re experiencing and the workload you already have. They may not realize how much pressure you’re under.

Additionally, have you considered discussing your situation with a guidance counselor or a trusted teacher? They can provide support and help you advocate for what you need, whether that’s a lighter course load or alternate classes that align better with your interests and goals.

Remember, it’s okay to prioritize your mental health and choose a path that feels right for you. You’re doing great with your current GPA, and there are many ways to achieve your goals without taking on more than you can handle. Take care of yourself!

Pre-calculus is really challenging for me right now. I recently moved to the U.S. from another country where I followed the IGCSE curriculum, and honestly, that was so much simpler.
