Are Teenage Boys Always So Annoying?

I (14F) have a real passion for math—learning new equations and solving problems makes me excited! But in my math class, the boys are constantly shouting and chatting with each other, and it drives me nuts. I just want to enjoy my time in math, but it seems like my poor teacher has to keep reminding them to quiet down and pay attention. Is there a point in high school where boys start to calm down and be more considerate? I just want to focus on math!

Edit: I apologize for generalizing about boys. I wrote this based on my experiences at my school, particularly in my math class, where the guys are often disruptive. I realize that girls can behave this way too, and I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I’m probably just biased because of the people I encounter at school. There’s a kid in my homeroom who thinks it’s hilarious to use offensive language repeatedly, which doesn’t help the situation either.

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel frustrated in an environment where it seems like others aren’t taking the class seriously. It sounds like you have a genuine passion for math, and it’s tough when others disrupt that focus.

Regarding your question about when boys might start to mellow out, it can really vary from person to person. High school is often a time when young people are figuring out their identities, and for some, that might involve being more boisterous or acting out. However, as they grow older and enter more serious educational and social environments, many do start to mature and focus more on their studies.

That said, it’s important to remember that not all boys behave this way, and there are definitely girls who can be just as disruptive! Finding a way to connect with classmates who share your enthusiasm for math might make the classroom experience a lot more enjoyable for you. Maybe you could start a study group or find a way to encourage your peers to engage more positively in the subject you love. Hang in there, and keep being passionate about math!
