Roommate ‘Borrowed’ My Apple Pencil… And I’m Pretty Sure It’s Gone For Good

The Tale of the Missing Apple Pencil: A Roommate’s Borrowing Habit

In the world of shared living spaces, the dynamics between roommates can often take unexpected turns. Recently, I encountered a familiar scenario in my own home: my roommate ‘borrowed’ my Apple Pencil for the third time within a single month. Each time, it was accompanied by assurances of a quick return—“Just for a minute,” or “I’ll bring it back after class.”

However, this time feels different; three days later, despite my polite inquiries, I’ve received nothing but vague responses. “I’ll look for it,” they insist, or “It must’ve fallen somewhere.” Despite my efforts to remain civil about the situation, I can’t shake the feeling that my Apple Pencil might be lost for good.

Realizing I may need to come to terms with this loss, I decided to take proactive measures rather than dwell on what appears to be a lost cause. I recently purchased an ESR stylus as a temporary solution. While it may not offer the same features as the Apple Pencil, surprisingly, it works well enough for taking notes during lectures.

This whole experience has served as a valuable lesson for me: trusting someone who has difficulty managing their own belongings—let alone yours—can lead to disappointment. So, here’s my advice to others navigating the complexities of shared living: always have a backup plan, and be mindful of whom you lend your belongings to!
