my parents just told me that even though we have enough to send me to school, we don’t have any money for me to move out and live there

Navigating Financial Challenges Before University: My Journey

As the excitement of starting university in Vancouver approaches, I’ve found myself facing an unexpected hurdle regarding finances. Despite my parents’ reassurance that they can support my schooling, they’ve recently revealed that while there is a substantial college fund of $50,000 earmarked for my education, there are no resources available for my living expenses when I move away. This revelation left me feeling a bit lost.

The plan was always to attend school, but I had not anticipated that the logistical aspect—specifically, moving out and settling into a new city—would present such a significant challenge. My parents have not been very open about our financial situation, and coming to terms with this new information has been quite overwhelming.

When I asked why we couldn’t withdraw funds from my college savings to cover my living expenses, I was met with the response that it’s not possible. I found myself wondering if I’m simply not grasping how it all works, as financial matters were seldom discussed in our household.

Currently, I’m juggling a part-time job while actively searching for full-time employment, but with September looming on the horizon, I’m beginning to worry whether I’ll have enough to make the move. Being accepted into university is a dream come true, yet the financial logistics threaten to cloud this exciting milestone.

As I navigate this uncertain terrain, I am reaching out to see if anyone has faced a similar situation. Is there a way to utilize those college funds for living expenses? Or are there alternative options and resources that I might not have considered? I would love to hear insights or tips on how to handle this transitional period. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
