I just finished up finals and got my final grade for a math class, which was an A-. The professor inputted it as an assignment for some reason so I had access to it immediately.
The problem is, all of my assignments added up to a 96%, after applying the correct weights on different types of assignments, weights which were taken directly from the syllabus.
The syllabus also includes a typical grading scale, with a 93% being an A. It mentions nothing other than this scale for calculating final grades.
When I emailed the professor about this, she said that this was because I got the last question wrong on the final, so she decided to drop me to an A-. That is the only explanation she gave.
I’ve never been in a situation like this before, but do I have a reason to appeal this to get the grade replaced with an A? I reviewed my school’s appeal policy, but the only reasons it cites are typical things like a professor not inputting an assignment, a final being graded incorrectly, etc.
Any help would be appreciated, I’m nervous to escalate this as I’ve never been in this situation before but my GPA is very important to me at the same time.
