First-Gen College Student Starting Criminal Justice — Hoping to Become a Criminal Defense Attorney

Navigating the Path: From First-Generation College Student to Aspiring Criminal Defense Attorney

Embarking on a new academic journey, I am proud to share that I will be starting college this fall as a first-generation student. My chosen major is criminal justice, with a clear vision: eventually attending law school and pursuing a career as a criminal defense attorney.

Coming from a family with no prior college or legal experience, I understand the importance of seeking guidance from those who have traversed this path before. I am particularly interested in connecting with fellow first-generation students and legal professionals who can share their insights and experiences.

For those who studied criminal justice prior to attending law school, I would love to hear your thoughts on how this major impacted your law school application process and academic success. Did your undergraduate studies provide a solid foundation, or were there challenges along the way?

Additionally, I welcome any advice on maximizing my undergraduate years—what strategies would you recommend for early law school preparation? Are there pitfalls I should be mindful of, or experiences you wish you had approached differently at my stage?

Thank you in advance for your valuable guidance and encouragement. I am eager to embark on this educational journey, facing both excitement and a touch of apprehension, with the hope of learning from those who have traveled this road ahead.
