Reflecting on the Academic Year: A Student’s Personal Review of High School Classes
As the school year draws to a close, many students take time to reflect on their academic experiences and share candid opinions about their classes. Here’s a personal account from one student’s perspective, offering insights into each subject and the overall high school journey.
Environmental Science: 7/10
This class was relatively straightforward, and I appreciated the instructor’s approach. However, teamwork was a challenge—my classmates often refused to communicate, which made group assignments frustrating. I also spent hours completing a project that ultimately went ungraded, costing me a higher grade. Despite these issues, I enjoyed the class content and the teacher.
Geometry: 7.5/10
I genuinely liked this course; the teacher was engaging, and the material was manageable. Unfortunately, many classmates displayed disruptive behavior—either disengaged or intentionally disruptive—which affected the classroom atmosphere. As a result, the teacher was often frustrated, and several students faced failing grades. Despite the challenges, I finished with a solid A, and I hope Algebra 2 will be just as manageable.
World History: 3/10
This class was disappointing; much of the instruction was replaced by computer-based work, which I found repetitive and dull. The grading system was heavily weighted toward tests, requiring near-perfect scores to maintain my grade. Additionally, many students were disengaged or cheating during assessments. I ended the course with a high B and remain apprehensive about US History being equally unengaging.
Lunch Break: 5.5/10
Lunchtime was quite mundane for me, especially since I moved schools after freshman year and haven’t yet formed new friendships. Still, it offers a quiet opportunity to catch up on homework or relax in peace.
Advanced Art: 1/10
This course was the most disappointing. I finished the first semester with a 79%, which was my first C in high school—raising concerns about college prospects. The workload often required all-nighters just to complete assignments, and though the second semester was marginally better, I still ended with a B. Many classmates struggled to complete their projects, leaving me glad I won’t have to endure this class again. I preferred my earlier art classes and my freshman year teacher.
Advisory: 6/10
While I like the teacher, her absence during the last month due to a family tragedy made the class less engaging. It’s been a boring
