Are Students Truly Prepared for College? A Deep Dive into Student Readiness and Planning

Embarking on the journey to higher education is a significant milestone for many students, but questions remain: Are students genuinely prepared for college, or are we all just winging it? As someone interested in exploring this topic further—possibly even developing a resource or tool—I’m conducting preliminary research to understand the student experience better.

I’d appreciate insights on the following areas:

  • How manageable or stressful is the college application process? Do students find it overwhelming, or is it a smooth experience?
  • At what point in high school do students start to genuinely consider their future colleges? Is there a common age or grade where this becomes a priority?
  • Did students receive any form of guidance or support during their college planning? If so, was it sufficient?
  • Did students actually seek out help, or were they hesitant to do so, even if assistance was offered?
  • What aspects of the college planning process tend to be the most frustrating or challenging?
  • When students took the initiative to research colleges independently, what resources did they primarily rely on? Family, friends, online resources, or other sources?

This inquiry is part of a personal project aimed at understanding the student perspective better. Your honest and candid responses will be invaluable. Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights!
