Navigating Graduation Challenges as an International Student: Should You Take a Break or Push Through?
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my blog. Today, I want to discuss a dilemma faced by many international students pursuing their degrees abroad—deciding whether to pause their studies or to persevere through challenging times.
As an experienced senior undergraduate student who relocated from my home country to the United States, I am currently confronted with a difficult decision. Due to ongoing immigration complexities, I find myself weighing the options of either returning home temporarily to complete my education or taking a leave of absence for a year. While my family supports the idea of taking some time off, I am troubled by the prospect of not graduating alongside my peers, which has started to impact my motivation and well-being.
Throughout my academic journey—from high school to university—I have consistently ranked among the top of my class, and the thought of delaying graduation adds considerable pressure. Reflecting on these circumstances, I feel a sense of regret about my decision to migrate, which has affected my enthusiasm for various aspects of my life.
At the core, my dilemma revolves around whether to “bet” now—by waiting out the immigration issues—or to take a risk and pause my studies, hoping the situation improves within the next year.
If you have experience or insights on how to manage such situations, your advice would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, guidance on making this tough choice would mean a lot. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding.
