Understanding the Impact of Single-Gender Spaces on Gender Diversity Inclusion: A Research Perspective

As a year 12 student currently undertaking my major project for Society and Culture, I am exploring a topical issue that resonates with many communities today: the increasing polarization of homosocial environments and its implications for gender-diverse individuals.

The focus of my research is to analyze how single-gender spaces—such as sports clubs, youth groups, religious organizations, and similar settings—affect the inclusion and participation of people across the gender spectrum. Recognizing that these environments can significantly influence social dynamics, I aim to gather insights into the experiences and perceptions of individuals involved in such contexts.

I have developed a short, anonymous survey open to participants from all backgrounds, with questions related to gender, age, and country of residence. The survey does not collect personal identifiers like names or emails. I am reaching out here in the hope that others engaged in similar settings—be it youth organizations, religious groups, or sports teams—might be willing to contribute their perspectives to enrich this research.

Your participation is especially valued by transgender and gender-diverse individuals, as their voices are crucial to understanding the full scope of this issue. If you’re involved in single-gender spaces or are interested in broader discussions on gender inclusion, your insights would be immensely helpful.

Additionally, I am more than happy to exchange ideas, assist with designing surveys, or offer advice for classmates tackling similar projects. As I am nearing the completion of my course, I am eager to support others exploring related topics.

Thank you for considering contributing to this important research—your input can make a meaningful difference in understanding gender inclusion in community spaces.
