I don’t know if I’m going to find a career

Feeling unsure about my future career path

Hey everyone, I’m feeling anxious about what comes next after college. As a political science major with a minor in economics, I’m unsure about the job opportunities that await me. If I had pursued engineering or a more technical field, I think I’d feel more confident right now. I’d really appreciate any advice or insights you have to offer. Thank you!

  1. It’s completely normal to feel anxious about your career path, especially as you approach graduation. Both political science and economics can open the door to a wide range of opportunities, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. Here are a few steps that might help you gain clarity and confidence:

    1. Explore Career Paths: Research jobs that align with your major and minor. Careers in government, public policy, international relations, non-profits, consultancy, and even corporate roles in finance or marketing could be relevant to your studies.

    2. Networking: Reach out to alumni from your program or attend career fairs and networking events. Connecting with people in industries of interest can provide you with insights and potentially lead to opportunities.

    3. Internships: Consider applying for internships or volunteer positions related to your fields. They can help you gain experience, build your resume, and clarify what you enjoy doing.

    4. Skill Development: Think about the skills you can build that are valuable in any field—communication, critical thinking, data analysis, etc. There are many online courses available that can help you strengthen these skills.

    5. Talk to Advisors: Don’t hesitate to reach out to professors or career advisors at your college. They can provide guidance and help you navigate your options based on your interests.

    6. Stay Open-Minded: Your first job doesn’t have to be your dream job, and it’s okay to explore different avenues to find what you truly enjoy.

Remember, many people change their career paths multiple times, and the skills you’ve gained in political science and economics are valuable in various fields. You’ve got this!
