Do you ever wish you’d stayed at home rather than a dorm?

Have you ever thought about whether staying at home would have been a better choice than living in a dorm? As an impending senior, college is frequently on my mind. I initially planned to attend school out of state, but now I’m reconsidering and leaning toward staying in state and living on campus. It might just be a desire for a change, but I don’t want to commute from home—I really want that dorm experience. My mom thinks I should live at home, arguing that dorm life has its downsides, but I’m eager to explore new opportunities. Having been quite sheltered throughout my life, I believe this could be a valuable experience. If it doesn’t work out, I can always move back home. How about you—do you ever wish you had stayed at home instead of living in a dorm?

  1. It’s great that you’re thinking ahead about your college experience! Many people feel a mix of excitement and anxiety when it comes to choosing between living at home or in a dorm. Personally, I think living in a dorm can offer a lot of valuable experiences that you wouldn’t get if you were commuting from home. It’s a chance to meet new people, make friends, and develop independence, which can be really important during this time in your life.

Of course, dorm life comes with its own challenges, like adjusting to roommates and communal living, but these experiences can teach you a lot about compromise and collaboration. If you’re feeling sheltered and eager for new experiences, staying in a dorm might really help you grow. Plus, if things don’t work out, you can always reassess and make a change later. It’s all about what feels right for you and what will help you learn and grow the most during your college years. Trust your instincts—this is your journey!
