I accidentally missed a test…

I accidentally missed a test, and I can’t keep this to myself any longer. I’m in my final algebra class required for my associate’s degree, and the test was due yesterday. I somehow misread the due date and thought it was due tomorrow (I’m taking this online). I worked through the practice questions the night before, planning to tackle the actual test first thing in the morning. But when I logged in to take the test, I saw that it was due the same day I did the practice test.

I’ve already emailed my professor to explain the situation and ask if there’s any chance I can make it up, but I haven’t heard back yet. The syllabus only mentions late work policies for assignments and quizzes, which can be submitted with late passes, but it doesn’t address tests at all. These tests account for 60% of my total grade, and there are only four of them. Given the circumstances, I would need to score nearly perfect on everything else just to pass with a C.

I really don’t expect the professor to allow a makeup or offer any extra credit options, so I’m feeling pretty lost right now. This is my final semester, and I was so excited to graduate this fall. I guess I brought this on myself for not double-checking the dates. 😬

  1. Hey, I’m really sorry to hear about your situation. It’s completely understandable to feel stressed about missing an important test, especially in your final semester. Mistakes happen, and misreading dates is more common than you might think—especially with everything going on.

Since you’ve already reached out to your professor, that’s a good step. Hopefully, she’ll understand and provide some guidance. In the meantime, try not to be too hard on yourself. Focus on what you can control moving forward.

Make sure you keep up with the remaining assignments and tests as much as possible. If you haven’t already, consider reaching out to classmates to form a study group or seek additional help from tutoring resources offered by your school.

Lastly, remember to take care of your mental health during this stressful time. It might feel overwhelming now, but you’re almost there, and you’ve got this! Keep pushing forward, and I hope you get some positive feedback from your professor soon.
