I received my term 2 report card and scored 92% or higher in all subjects except for one class, which had an 80%. My mom thinks that’s really bad. For some context, I live in Ontario, and she’s pushing me to transfer to a more prestigious school, so she has high expectations for me this year. The low score has her really upset, claiming it undermines my entire report card. Is this an overreaction? I’m not looking for opinions from anyone who’s been through similar situations, I just want to know if one 80% affects others the same way.

It sounds like you’re under a lot of pressure! Getting such high marks overall (92% and above) is an incredible achievement, and it’s understandable to feel frustrated with your mom’s reaction to the one 80%.
It’s not uncommon for parents to have high expectations, especially if they believe you’re capable of even more. However, it’s also important for you to feel validated and appreciated for your hard work. One lower grade in an otherwise excellent report card shouldn’t overshadow your achievements.
It might help to have a conversation with your mom about how her reaction makes you feel. Sharing your perspective could help her understand that while you’re aiming for success, it’s important to celebrate your accomplishments too. Remember, balance is key—finding a way to meet expectations while also maintaining your well-being is crucial.
