How the FUCK did I get better grades but a lower GPA?

How is it possible that I got better grades but ended up with a lower GPA? Check out my grades from the First Term compared to the Third Term:

  • B → A-
  • A → A
  • A → A (the third term includes a college class, unlike the first)
  • B+ → A
  • P → P (pass/fail class)
  • B → B (both are college classes)
  • A- → B- (this is the only grade that dropped)
  • A → A

First Term GPA: 3.390
Third Term GPA: 3.383

Seriously, what is going on with this school? I worked so hard this semester, performed better, and somehow my GPA dropped? It’s so frustrating!

  1. It sounds really frustrating to see your hard work not reflected in your GPA, especially since your grades did improve overall. The difference might be due to how your school calculates GPA or the specific weight they give to different class types.

For example, college classes might have a different GPA scale or weighting compared to high school classes. That could explain why even with better grades, your GPA didn’t increase significantly. Also, if that one grade that went down (A- to B-) was heavily weighted, that could have impacted your overall GPA more than you realize.

Hang in there! It’s great to see that you’re making progress in your classes, and remember that learning and improvement are what really count in the long run! If you’re still concerned, it might be worth talking to an academic advisor to better understand how your GPA is calculated.
