Atheists, what would make you believe in a God? Theists, what would make you disbelieve in a God?

Atheists, what evidence or experiences would lead you to belief in a deity? Theists, what factors or reasons might cause you to doubt the existence of a God?

  1. Atheists might say that they would be more inclined to believe in a God if there were clear, tangible evidence of such a being’s existence—like a personal experience that cannot be easily explained away, or scientific evidence that supports the claims made by theistic traditions. They might also consider a well-reasoned philosophical argument that conclusively addresses the existence of God.

On the other hand, theists might cite the discovery of definitive evidence that contradicts their beliefs—such as a universal explanation for existence that does not involve a deity, or experiences that strongly suggest the nonexistence of a higher power. Additionally, they might find it challenging to continue believing if they encounter profound suffering that seems incompatible with a benevolent God.

Ultimately, these personal thresholds for belief or disbelief often hinge on experience, evidence, and philosophical reasoning.
