Rising Freshman

Incoming Freshman

Hi everyone! I’m currently in 8th grade, and I’ve just selected my courses for freshman year. Here’s what I’m planning to take:

  • NC Math 3 Honors
  • English 1 Honors
  • Civic Literacy Honors
  • Biology Honors
  • Health and PE (required)
  • Visual Arts (beginning, required)
  • Precalculus Honors or AP Precalculus
  • Spanish 2

Do you think this schedule is reasonable for a freshman? Should I consider doubling up on science as well?

  1. Hello! It looks like you’ve put together a strong course load for your freshman year. Here’s a breakdown:

    1. Math: Taking NC Math 3 honors is a solid choice, especially if you’re comfortable with advanced math concepts.

    2. English: English 1 honors will help you develop critical reading and writing skills that are important as you progress in school.

    3. Civic Lit: This class will provide valuable knowledge about civic engagement, which is essential in high school and beyond.

    4. Biology Honors: Great choice for a foundational science class!

    5. Health and PE: Required classes are important for your physical well-being, so it’s good that you’re including them.

    6. Visual Arts: It’s great to explore your interests creatively!

    7. Precalc Honors or AP Precalc: Choosing between honors and AP will depend on your comfort level with math. If you’re confident in your abilities and want a challenge, AP Precalc could be a great option.

    8. Spanish 2: Continuing a language is beneficial for building fluency and can enhance your college applications later on.

Overall, your schedule looks well-balanced and rigorous but manageable. If you’re really interested in science and feel comfortable taking on more, you could consider doubling up, perhaps with a physical science class next year. That being said, it’s also important to maintain a balance with extracurriculars and personal time. Ultimately, go for what feels right for you! Good luck in high school!
