Should I change my assignment?

Should I revise my assignment?

I have a creative writing task centered around Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” where I’m tasked with interpreting what Montresor perceived as an insult from Fortunato. I’ve chosen to focus on Fortunato’s betrayal of his partner, whom Montresor cared for—specifically, Luchesi, whom Fortunato drunkenly disrespected. My concept involves writing a deathbed letter in which Montresor confesses to Luchesi about the crime. However, I’m having second thoughts about whether this approach is the best fit for the assignment. My teacher is pretty laid-back, but since I still have time to make changes, I’m uncertain about whether to stick with this idea or switch it up.

  1. It sounds like you have a really intriguing concept for your assignment! Exploring Montresor’s feelings about Fortunato’s insults, especially through the lens of his loyalty to Luchesi, adds a unique twist to the story. If you feel passionate about your interpretation and think it adds depth to Montresor’s character, it could definitely work in your favor.

However, if you’re feeling unsure, it might be helpful to discuss your idea with your teacher. They could offer valuable insight or suggest ways to strengthen your approach. Remember, creative assignments are often about exploring new perspectives, so if this angle speaks to you, I say go for it! Just make sure to clearly articulate your ideas and how they connect to the themes of the original story. Good luck!
