What should I do?

What should I do?

To get straight to the point, I’m considering transferring to another community college on the mainland USA because my current college on my home island doesn’t offer the major I want. I’m currently classified as a pre-nursing student, but I’m actually interested in a dental career. The dilemma is that I want to stay here for another year before transferring, but I’m unsure if it’s worth taking classes related to a major I don’t plan to pursue. At the same time, I’m trying to save money and I’m not quite ready to leave my home island yet. What do you think?

One Reply to “What should I do?”

  1. It’s understandable to want to stay on your home island for another year, especially if you’re not ready to make the move yet. Here are a few options to consider:

    1. Explore Relevant Classes: If there are any courses you can take that would be beneficial for your future dental career, it might be worth considering them. Look for classes that could transfer to your new institution or are prerequisites for the dental program you want to pursue.

    2. Plan for Transfer: Use this time to research potential colleges and dental programs that interest you. Look into their requirements and see if there are ways you can make yourself a stronger applicant while still at your current institution.

    3. Consult with Advisors: Talk to academic advisors both at your current college and potential transfer schools. They can help you understand what classes would be helpful if you decide to transfer and provide guidance on your transition.

    4. Consider a Delay: If you don’t feel ready to leave yet but are also uncertain about taking classes unrelated to your future goals, consider focusing on saving money and preparing for the transfer instead.

    5. Evaluate Your Priorities: Think about whether the benefits of staying another year outweigh the costs of potentially delaying your studies in a dental-related field.

Ultimately, there’s no right answer, but weighing your options and planning ahead can help you make a decision that feels right for you.
