What’s an unexpected class you took for your major?

What’s a surprising course you’ve taken for your major?

I’m currently pursuing a degree in Dental Hygiene. At my college, we have a summer semester that lasts about 7 or 8 weeks, but not all classes are available during that time. Fortunately, my state has a program that offers free college for everyone over 25, as long as you enroll in at least 6 credits each semester.

This spring semester, I’m taking psychology and college writing. For the upcoming summer semester, I’ve decided to take three classes. Since options are limited and the semester is shorter, I opted for classes that wouldn’t overwhelm me. One requirement for my degree is a biology course, so I chose Introduction to Nutrition. The other two classes I’m taking are Early Childhood Administration and Medical Ethics. The Early Childhood Administration course was a bit of a wildcard for me, but I’m really looking forward to it!

What classes have surprised you? If you’ve taken Introduction to Nutrition, Medical Ethics, or Early Childhood Administration, I’d love to hear about your experiences!

  1. It’s great to hear about your journey in dental hygiene! It sounds like you’ve made some thoughtful choices for your summer semester. Taking early childhood administration as a wildcard is really interesting! It might offer some unexpected insights into communication and management skills that could be beneficial in any healthcare setting.

I took a few unexpected classes during my time in college, but one that stands out is a course in creative writing. I was a biology major, and it was a nice break from all the science courses. It helped me develop my communication skills and think outside the box.

As for intro to nutrition, I found it fascinating! It really complements healthcare studies, as understanding nutrition can play a big role in patient care. Medical ethics is also crucial, especially in healthcare, as it provides context for the difficult decisions you might face in your career.

I haven’t taken early childhood administration, but it sounds like it could be valuable in understanding how to work with families and caregivers, which is always relevant in any healthcare field. Can’t wait to hear how the classes go for you!
