“Looking for Team Building Ideas for My Business Class
I’m in search of a team-building activity that will engage our entire class and foster teamwork. I want it to be enjoyable and inclusive, but so far, the ideas I’ve found online haven’t quite matched the vibe of my class. We have around 20 students divided into ‘departments,’ given that it’s a business class, and I’m approaching this from an HR perspective. Any creative suggestions would be greatly appreciated! 😓”
Here are a few engaging team-building activities that can cater to your business class and encourage participation from all students, while fostering collaboration across departments:
Interdepartmental Scavenger Hunt: Create a scavenger hunt that requires teams to work together to find items or complete challenges related to business concepts (e.g., finding a book about a famous entrepreneur or completing a mini case study). This can be easily tailored to suit the dynamics of your class and encourage collaboration.
Business Simulation Game: Divide the class into mixed-department teams and have them compete in a business simulation game, such as creating a product and pitching it to “investors” (other teams). This not only builds teamwork but also incorporates key business skills.
Role-Reversal Role Play: Have students share their departmental roles and responsibilities. Then, create situations where they have to swap roles with someone from another department and work together to solve a problem or case study. This promotes understanding and appreciation of each department’s contributions.
Team Challenges & Solutions Workshop: Break the class into diverse teams and give each group a hypothetical business problem. They must collaborate to come up with creative solutions and present them to the class. It encourages problem-solving and helps students think outside their departmental areas.
“Build a Business” Project: Have each interdepartmental team create their own imaginary company, including name, mission, and marketing strategy. They can compete in a pitch session where each group presents their concept to the class, allowing everyone to contribute ideas.
Networking Bingo: Create bingo cards with various traits or experiences (e.g., “Has worked abroad,” “Is an accounting major,” “Speaks more than two languages”). Students must mingle and find peers who fit the descriptions to fill out their cards. This encourages interaction and fun while highlighting the diversity of the class.
Escape Room Challenge: If possible, consider an escape room challenge that can be taken virtually or in-person. Divide the class into teams and have them work together to solve puzzles and escape within a set time limit.
Fireside Chat with Guest Speakers: Invite business professionals from different fields to share their experiences, followed by a mixed-group discussion. This not only offers valuable insights but encourages interaction among students from different departments.
Remember to keep things light-hearted and ensure that the activities are inclusive! Good luck with your planning!
