Does college make anyone else physically sick?

Is anyone else feeling physically unwell due to college?

As a first-year online student, I’m really struggling this term. My first semester was actually a breeze—I was able to complete most of my assignments by Thursday with hardly any stress. I never imagined I’d find college so manageable! But this term has taken a completely different turn. Now, I can only tackle one or two assignments a day before I start feeling nauseous, dizzy, and overwhelmed. At first, I thought it was just stress, but even the simplest discussion posts are making me feel this way.

It’s becoming incredibly difficult to get my work done, so I’m reaching out in hopes of feeling less alone and maybe getting some advice. I’ve been taking frequent breaks, staying hydrated, and making sure to eat, but I still can’t shake this feeling. Any support or suggestions would be really appreciated.

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a really tough time, and I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. College can be overwhelming, even if it seemed manageable at first. It’s important to listen to your body—migraines and other physical symptoms can definitely be linked to stress, but they might also indicate that you need to adjust your routine or find new coping strategies.

Have you considered reaching out to a counselor or therapist at your school? They can provide support and help you develop techniques to manage anxiety and stress. Sometimes just talking about what you’re feeling can help relieve some of the pressure.

Additionally, make sure you’re checking in with yourself about your workload—maybe the change in pace or difficulty this term is more challenging than before, and that’s okay! Consider breaking your tasks down even further or setting shorter, more achievable goals. It might also help to incorporate some movement or relaxation techniques that you can do between assignments to help reset your mind.

Remember, you’re not alone in this, and it’s completely valid to seek support from peers, advisors, or health professionals. College is a big adjustment, and it’s okay to ask for help when you need it!
