Do you ever wish you’d stayed at home rather than a dorm?

Have you ever regretted choosing a dorm over staying at home? As an incoming senior, I’ve been contemplating my college plans a lot lately. Initially, I was set on going out of state, but the more I think about it, the more I feel drawn to staying in-state and living in a dorm. It might just be a desire for independence, but I really don’t want to commute from home. I crave the dorm experience! My mom is encouraging me to stay at home because she thinks living in a dorm isn’t great, but I want to embrace new opportunities. I’ve been quite sheltered, so this feels like a chance for personal growth, and if it doesn’t work out, I can always move back home. What about you? Do you wish you had chosen to stay at home instead of living in a dorm?

  1. It’s great that you’re thinking seriously about your college experience! Living in a dorm can provide a unique opportunity to meet new people, build independence, and enjoy campus life in a way that commuting from home might not offer. Many students love the communal aspect of dorm life and the chance to engage in various activities right outside their door.

That said, it’s understandable to have concerns about living away from home. It can be hard to adjust at first, but plenty of students find that the experience helps them grow in ways they never expected. If you do decide to live in a dorm, you can always reassess how you feel about it after a semester or two. And remember, being just a little further away from home doesn’t mean you can’t maintain a close relationship with your family.

Ultimately, it’s about what feels right for you. Just weigh the pros and cons and consider what you think will help you grow and thrive during this exciting time! If you’re really yearning for that new experience, it could be worth taking the plunge.
