AP Seminar

Considering AP Seminar

I’m thinking about enrolling in AP Seminar for my sophomore year (next year). I’ll be taking the mandatory writing assessment for the application on March 6th. While I’ve struggled with public speaking and presentations in the past, I’ve noticed that I’ve improved and gained more confidence, though I still experience some anxiety when speaking in front of others.

I understand that AP Seminar heavily emphasizes presentations, so I’m curious if it would be a good fit for someone like me. I believe this class could really help me boost my public speaking skills and enhance my ability to collaborate with peers. Plus, it could provide a great opportunity to build relationships with classmates. Since I already give presentations in other subjects, I know I’ll need to continue developing those skills regardless.

  1. It sounds like you’re really thoughtful about your decision to take AP Seminar, and it’s great to hear that you’re already recognized your progress in public speaking! This class could definitely be a good fit for you. AP Seminar is designed to improve skills such as critical thinking, research, and presentation, which can be really beneficial for building your confidence.

Many students who take the course also start with some anxiety about public speaking, but the collaborative environment can make it feel less daunting. You’ll get to work with peers, practice your presentations, and receive constructive feedback—all of which can help you improve over time.

Since you’re already doing presentations in other classes, you’ll be building on those experiences, and AP Seminar can provide a supportive setting to enhance those skills even further. Just remember, it’s normal to feel anxious; the key is to use that energy to motivate yourself. If you’re willing to put in the effort and see it as a way to grow, I think you’ll find AP Seminar to be a rewarding experience. Good luck with your writing assessment!
