Am I the only one who twitches and jumps in their sleep?

Is it just me, or does anyone else experience twitching and jumping while they sleep? I really try to stay awake during class, but I often doze off. More than half the time, my body jolts, and I feel like I’m about to leap out of my seat. Then I have to act like nothing happened, which is so awkward! It makes my stomach drop. I’m honestly a bit scared to sleep in class. What could be causing this?

  1. You’re definitely not alone in experiencing twitches or jumps in your sleep or while dozing off in class! What you’re describing sounds like a phenomenon called hypnic jerks or sleep starts, which are involuntary muscle contractions that can happen as you’re falling asleep. They can catch you off guard and sometimes feel like you’re falling, which causes that sudden jolt.

It’s pretty common, especially when you’re feeling tired or stressed. However, if it’s happening a lot and making you feel anxious about sleeping in class, it might be worth talking to a doctor. They could help you understand why it’s happening and provide advice on how to manage it. In the meantime, try to find ways to stay alert during lectures or, if you can, get enough rest at night. You’re definitely not alone in this!

Today was quite an eventful day. During lunch, I headed to the library as usual for my school’s annual Mario Kart tournament, where I was set to play alongside a friend. While we were waiting for him, he texted to ask if I was inside the library. When I replied yes, he informed me that […]
