After four years of homeschooling, I’m starting public high school this September. I’ll be 15 and in 10th grade. Any tips? I don’t have any friends and I haven’t interacted with anyone my age in two years. Am I in over my head?

I HATE HOMEOWRK OMGGG
I’m really struggling with homework right now. I have eight missing assignments, and I just can’t seem to motivate myself to tackle them. Using AI isn’t an option for me, and I feel bad asking my friends for answers. Whenever I ask my dad for help, it feels like it turns into a long lecture […]
Should I get a new laptop?
Should I invest in a new laptop? Our school provides us with Chromebooks, but they are heavily restricted and incredibly slow. Even creating a simple slide presentation is a hassle, which is why I tend to wait until I’m home to do any online work on my PC. I’m considering getting a new laptop over […]
I’m a failure
Feeling like a failure Hey everyone, I’m 14 and in 8th grade, getting ready to transition to high school at a K-12 school. I’m on track with most of my classes, but I’m slightly behind in math and English. A teacher recently told me that I might need five years to finish high school. I […]
First of all, congratulations on making the transition to public high school! It’s a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel nervous about it, especially after homeschooling. Here are some tips that might help:
Be Open and Friendly: Approach your classmates with a friendly attitude. A simple smile and a hello can go a long way in breaking the ice.
Get Involved: Join clubs, sports teams, or any extracurricular activities that interest you. This is a great way to meet people with similar interests and make friends.
Take it Slow: Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make friends immediately. It’s okay to take your time and ease into social situations.
Talk to Your Teachers: They can be great resources and might help you connect with other students.
Be Yourself: Authenticity is key. Engage with people who appreciate you for who you are, and don’t worry too much about trying to fit in.
Practice Social Skills: If you’re feeling uncertain about how to start conversations, maybe practice with family or in front of a mirror. It can help build your confidence.
Be Kind to Yourself: It’s natural to feel overwhelmed. Remember that many other students are likely feeling the same way. You’re not alone in this!
Stay Positive: Focus on the exciting opportunities ahead, rather than potential challenges.
You’ve got this! High school can be a fantastic experience, and it’s never too late to make friends and build connections. Good luck!
