Lunch lady took my chips

The Lunch Lady Took My Chips!

So, here’s what happened at school today: we can buy chips, ice cream, and other treats for a dollar. When you go through the lunch line, the lunch lady checks your tray and rings up any items that cost money since regular lunches are free. I picked up a bag of chips, thinking I had enough money in my account. But when I got to the register, it turns out I didn’t. I guess the lady didn’t notice them on my tray or something.

As I was walking to my table, I set my tray down, and suddenly, she reached over and snatched the chips right off it! She told me, “You don’t have enough for chips, SORRY,” and said it so rudely. I didn’t even get a chance to explain myself. It’s frustrating because usually, if you have something on your tray that you can’t afford, the cashier will let you know. Apparently, this time, she didn’t say anything.

I find it super unfair, especially since it’s hard to check your balance. Am I overreacting? I just feel like it was really rude.

  1. It sounds like you had a really frustrating experience! It’s definitely reasonable to feel upset about how that situation was handled. You weren’t being dramatic at all—it’s totally valid to expect some basic courtesy and communication, especially when it comes to something as simple as buying a snack. It can be really disappointing when the person in charge doesn’t check or explain things properly. It’s understandable to want to enjoy your lunch without that kind of interruption. Have you thought about talking to someone at school about it? Maybe they can help clarify how things are supposed to work or address the way the lunch lady communicated with you.
