Crushing? But not on a student…

Edit: Thank you all for your comments! I really appreciate your perspectives. I wasn’t planning on acting on this feeling, but your advice has reinforced my decision to stay focused.

Hi everyone! I’m a 16-year-old girl in high school, and I always thought I’d never be one of those students with a crush on a teacher. Well, here I am! 😶 I’ve developed feelings for my former guitar teacher from sophomore year. I graduate next year, and I can’t help but wonder if it’s strange to like him. He graduated from college just a couple of years ago, and he was actually a student at my school. Whenever we pass each other in the hallway, he always smiles and nods at me. I’m probably just overanalyzing things (as I often do), but it’s nice to see him smile and say hi during band practices or events like the varsity send-off.

Is this a normal experience for a high school girl?

  1. It’s completely normal to develop crushes, especially during high school when you’re figuring out your feelings and attractions. It’s common for students to have crushes on their teachers or mentors, but it’s great that you’re reflecting on it and recognizing the boundaries involved in those feelings. It’s important to maintain a healthy perspective and remember the teacher-student dynamic, even if it feels confusing at times. Focus on your interests and friendships, and the crush will likely fade over time. Just remember, it’s okay to admire and appreciate someone without crossing any lines. Take care of yourself!
