Falsely accused of AI

Subject: Wrongly Accused of Using AI for My Essay

I recently submitted a three-page essay, and today I found out I received a 0% for it. The teacher’s comment stated something along the lines of, “Submitting AI work is against the student handbook.” I dedicated three days to writing this essay, and the version history clearly shows my progress each day. I also ran the essay through an AI detection tool, which indicated only 4% AI involvement, with the flagged portion being directly related to the source material we were assigned. It seems my teacher doesn’t believe I wrote it myself. I’m looking for advice on how to handle this situation. What would you do?

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your situation—being accused of something you didn’t do can be incredibly frustrating. Here are a few steps you could consider taking:

    1. Gather Evidence: Compile all your work, including your drafts, notes, and the version history. This can help demonstrate your writing process and show that the essay is your original work.

    2. Talk to Your Teacher: Schedule a meeting with your teacher to discuss the situation. Bring your evidence and calmly explain your writing process. Emphasize the time and effort you put into creating the paper.

    3. Seek Support: If your conversation with your teacher doesn’t resolve the issue, consider reaching out to a school counselor or an administrator. Explain the situation and ask for their help in advocating for you.

    4. Review the Policies: Familiarize yourself with your school’s academic integrity policies. If you believe you’ve been wrongly accused, knowing the rules can help you navigate the conversation with your teachers and administration.

    5. Stay Calm and Professional: Throughout the process, try to remain calm and professional. Emotions can run high in situations like this, but maintaining a respectful tone can help in getting your point across more effectively.

I hope you can clear this up soon!
