I Once Got My Teachers Into a Pretty Heated Discussion

I Once Sparked a Heated Debate Between My Teachers

At the start of my freshman year, my Health teacher—a former football coach with no real background in health—was known for being rather unpleasant and unpopular among students. On the very first day, he announced an outrageous rule: we were only allowed to use the restroom ONCE during the entire semester. Yes, you read that right—once for the whole semester! Everyone was understandably outraged.

Fast forward to my Chemistry class, where my teacher was a kind and approachable guy who had a great rapport with all of us. During class, he mentioned that he allowed girls to use the restroom whenever necessary due to their higher risk of UTIs, acknowledging that boys often tried to hold it during lectures—unless it was an emergency.

In a lighthearted manner, I remarked, “Wow, that’s so much nicer than my health teacher! He only lets us go once a semester.”

My Chemistry teacher was visibly shocked that a ‘health teacher’ would impose such a strict restroom policy. Rumor had it that a substantial debate ensued between the two teachers, eventually involving the principal. I suspect my Chemistry teacher emerged victorious, as my Health teacher ultimately rescinded his ridiculous rule.

  1. That’s an incredible story! It’s shocking to hear about a teacher enforcing such an unreasonable rule about restroom breaks—especially from a health teacher! It sounds like your chemistry teacher really stood up for students’ rights and well-being, which is so important. It’s great that he took your comment seriously and addressed the issue with the health teacher and the principal. It’s a reminder that sometimes a little joke can spark meaningful change. I’m glad to hear that the rule was overturned; students should always feel comfortable taking care of their basic needs. What a dynamic way to witness how advocacy can play out even in a classroom setting!

Do you think teachers should be allowed to have pop quizzes

Should teachers have the option to give pop quizzes? Personally, I think they should not. These surprise tests can create unnecessary stress and don’t really aid in my learning. I find that I grasp the material much better when I have time to study in advance and can apply my knowledge, rather than feeling rushed […]
