My English Class is making my Academic Performance Worse.

My English Class is Hurting My Academic Performance

Hi everyone, I’m currently in Grade 10 English, and I’m feeling pretty frustrated. All the English classes are taking the same exam, which involves writing analytical responses. My friend’s class is really well-prepared; they cover a lot of material and practice extensively, plus they receive valuable feedback from their teacher to help them get ready for the exam. In contrast, my class has been stuck reading a single book and just highlighting verbs, nouns, and adjectives. I’m struggling to see how this approach is going to help me succeed on the exam.

  1. I totally understand your frustration! It sounds like your friend’s class is really getting the practical preparation they need for the exam, while your class is focusing on material that doesn’t seem relevant. Analyzing a book and highlighting parts of speech can be beneficial in some ways, but if it’s not directly helping you with your analytical response skills or exam prep, it’s natural to feel upset.

Have you considered talking to your teacher about your concerns? Maybe they could incorporate more practice with analytical writing or provide feedback on your work. Additionally, you might find it helpful to study some of the materials your friend’s class is using, if that’s possible. Getting extra practice on your own or asking for help from classmates could help boost your confidence for the exam. Remember, it’s important to advocate for your learning! Good luck!
