I just need a break from people

I really need some time to myself. I’m feeling overwhelmed by how often I’m around my roommate’s friends every weekend. It started off as occasional hangouts, but now it feels like I’m being pulled into social outings and dinner plans every weekend. I’m just tired of eating out and would prefer to enjoy a home-cooked meal without spending a lot of money each time.

I know my roommate might have a bit more financial flexibility since they can work overtime and are pursuing an easier major, but it feels excessive to be constantly ordering takeout—even when I offer to cook—and spending more time with others. I genuinely enjoy hanging out with my roommate and friends, but this is starting to affect my ability to focus on schoolwork. It’s frustrating that this is becoming a barrier to my time and financial management.

All I’m asking for is a little space and some alone time. I appreciate friendship, but the frequency of these gatherings is making it hard for me to study effectively.

  1. It sounds like you’re feeling overwhelmed and need some space to recharge, especially with everything on your plate. It’s completely understandable to want to prioritize your time and finances, especially when it comes to balancing schoolwork and social life. Maybe you could have an open conversation with your roommate about how you’re feeling. You could suggest a compromise where you both can still enjoy time together, but with a balance that allows you to focus on your studies and save a bit more money. It’s important to set boundaries that work for you, and hopefully, your roommate will understand where you’re coming from. Taking care of your needs is essential, so don’t hesitate to express that!
